Description
Mysuru or Mysore famed for its glistening royal heritage, majestic monuments and architectural pieces is among South India’s most beautiful cities. Though it is the Mysore Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that brings majority of the travellers to it, but Mysore is also steeped in tradition, its ambient bazaars replete with unique bric-a-brac, selling everything from incense, sandalwood artifacts to spices, bring out the true flavour of one of Karnataka’s most important cities, lying at the foothills of the Chamundi Hill around 145 kilometre southwest of its capital, Bangalore. Mysore’s claim to fame apart from its world-heritage status palace is ashtanga yoga, with several acclaimed schools located here, bringing in enthusiasts from all over the world. Mysore is otherwise regarded as a hub for sandalwood carving, silk and incense making. Despite its proximity to the high-tech Bangalore, Mysore at heart remains an old-fashioned little town, drawing visitors for its cultural and historical landmarks and also for its newfound status as a premiere international yoga destination. But it is to be remembered that Mysore tour packages are incomplete if they do not comprise a visit to the Chamundi Hill, and of course, Mysore Palace.
On a Mysore trip you must ensure you round up all its historical landmarks. The recorded history of this city goes back more than a thousand years. Though as per Hindu mythology, it is on the spot where demon Mahishasura was slain by Goddess Chamundi. The same is evident in the Mahishasura statue looming over the Chamundi Hill on the outskirts of Mysore. Later, historically, the city came into prominence when it became the capital of a breakaway vassal state of the Vijayanagara Empire under the Wodeyar Rajas in 1584. It was only in 1610 did the later Wodeyar king, Chamaraja move his capital from Mysore to close by Srirangapatna. A commander in the Wodeyar army, Hyder Ali in the late 18th century usurped power and was later succeeded by his son, Tipu Sultan who fought with the British and lost to them, dying in 1799 in battle. Post Tipu Sultan’s death, the British turned the Wodeyars into puppet rulers and moved their capital back to Mysore. The Wodeyars had internal autonomy and the Kingdom of Mysore accounting for a major part of present-day Karnataka turned into one of the best administered kingdoms in the country
It is a popular belief that Traveling is the best form of recreational activity but it is not always true. Let me explain, travelling to a popular destination during the tourist season can really take away a lot from the experience leaving more of rush and hustle behind and wasn’t these were the main things you try to escape from when you travel. So, this is how travel is not always the best recreational activity. Now, it might sound crazy but I hope atleast some of you would have pointed out that lack of precision in my claim as it was not totally correct. A more precise version of my statement would tat Travelling to some of the popular destinations is not always the best way to escape from hustle and rush. So, the problem has been discussed but nothing about the solution have been discussed yet. Is there any Solution to this problem? A simple and short answer is Yes. And somehow the answer is hidden inside the problem statement itself. The problem is that travelling to a popular destination can be a hustle in season, So, why not travel to an offbeat place where you will find less tourist and more peace and calm. Moreover, the experience is more or less similar or might be even better than a popular destination.
TFor those of you who are scratching their heads and thinking what actually are offbeat places, then let me tell you an offbeat place is the one which receives very less tourists or a less popular travel destination.
